Lisa Ashinoff is a contemporary American artist whose iconic paintings have been featured in galleries and major exhibits throughout the U.S. and Europe.  Environment in her formative years impacted her view of the interrelationship of architecture, art and the human condition.  She was especially struck by the minimalist aesthetic and mid-century modern design and cityscapes.

"When I began this body of work I did not set out with a clear understanding of why architecture, geometry and color were combining to provide this outlet in which to express myself.  Quite simply it flowed out of me.  My interpretation and understanding of the work have evolved over time.  I continue to find the relationships between shape, color, line and perspective fascinating, inspiring me to produce paintings that are almost meditative, with a sense of nostalgia and optimism. "

"Research has shown that there are specialized cells in the hippocampal region of our brains that are attuned to the geometry and arrangement of the spaces in which we live.  So, exposure to architecture and travel can change who we are, rewiring our brains.  Looking at art and creating art can also impact our neurobiology and neurochemistry.  As my work has evolved, I've found new meaning and a deeper understanding as to why I am driven to create the work.”

"Winston Churchill said that we shape our buildings and afterwards our buildings shape us.  I think it's clear that buildings and their surroundings have shaped my interpretation of our architectural world in a unique perspective."
